The tobacco control workforce is predominantly White, highly educated, and ideologically committed to the abstinence framework. Most have never smoked. Few have personal experience with nicotine addiction or recovery. **This is not a criticism—it's a description. The workforce's demographic and ideological composition shapes what questions get asked, what evidence gets funded, and what policies get pursued. A more diverse workforce—including people with lived experience of nicotine use—would produce different questions, different evidence, and different policies.**
